Panel Upgrade

Service Upgrades

Upgrade your electrical service to meet modern power demands. We handle everything from panel replacement to meter base upgrades, all permitted and inspected to code.

When Your Electrical Service Needs an Upgrade

If your breakers trip frequently, lights dim when appliances start, or you're adding central air or an EV charger, your existing electrical service may not have the capacity. Most older homes in Hamilton were built with 60- or 100-amp service. Today's households—with multiple HVAC zones, electric vehicles, and modern kitchens—often need 200 amps or more.

A service upgrade replaces your main electrical panel, meter base, and service entrance conductors to deliver the power your home requires. It's not optional when you're over capacity; it's a safety and code requirement.

What a Service Upgrade Includes

Every service upgrade we perform covers:

  • New main electrical panel sized to your current and future load requirements
  • Upgraded meter base and service entrance conductors from the utility connection to your panel
  • Coordination with your utility company for disconnect and reconnection
  • All required permits and inspections with the local authority having jurisdiction
  • Grounding and bonding to current NEC standards

We handle the paperwork, schedule the utility, and ensure every connection meets code. You get a system that's safe, legal, and ready for decades of service.

Why Homes Need Service Upgrades

Adding high-draw equipment. Electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, and pool equipment can each demand 40–60 amps. If your panel is already near capacity, an upgrade is the only safe path forward.

Replacing an outdated panel. Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and some older panels are known fire hazards. A service upgrade replaces the entire system with modern, listed equipment.

Preparing for a renovation. Kitchen and bathroom remodels often require additional circuits. If your panel is full or undersized, the upgrade happens first.

Selling or refinancing. Home inspectors flag outdated or overloaded panels. A service upgrade resolves the issue and adds value.

Our Process

We start with a load calculation to determine the correct service size for your home. Then we pull permits, coordinate the utility disconnect, install the new panel and meter base, and schedule the final inspection. You'll have power back the same day in most cases, and the work is warrantied.

Common questions

How long does a service upgrade take?+

Most residential service upgrades are completed in one day. Your power will be off for a few hours while we work and coordinate with the utility, but you'll have service restored the same day in nearly all cases.

Do I need to upgrade to 200 amps?+

It depends on your load. We perform a load calculation based on your home's square footage, existing equipment, and planned additions. Many homes do well with 200-amp service, but some smaller homes may only need 150 amps, and larger homes with multiple heat pumps or EV chargers may require more.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover this?+

Service upgrades are typically not covered by insurance unless damage from a covered event caused the need. However, upgrading an outdated or unsafe panel can lower your premiums and is sometimes required for policy renewal.
